Remote Control and Monitoring Solution for Robot

In the contemporary industrial landscape, ABBhas supplied around 400,000 industrial robots worldwide. These robots areessential for automating manufacturing processes, significantly boostingefficiency and productivity. However, their high power consumption results inconsiderable operational costs. ABB's latest development includes robots andpower systems capable of recycling electric energy from mechanical energyduring operation and selling it to local microgrids.

Our project addresses two main designchallenges within ABB’s latest robot technology: high energy consumption andthe lack of real-time monitoring capabilities for bi-directional powertransmission. The energy consumption of robot control cabinets remainssubstantial even when the robots are idle, leading to energy wastage andincreased costs. Additionally, current testing equipment for traditional robotslacks real-time bi-directional power monitoring, which hampers the promptdetection and diagnosis of issues, affecting the reliability of testingprocedures.

To tackle these challenges, we proposedeveloping a smart, app-based device capable of remotely controlling the powerof robot control cabinets, significantly reducing energy wastage andoperational costs by managing power consumption more effectively. Moreover, oursolution incorporates real-time monitoring of critical electrical parameters,enhancing diagnostic precision and overall reliability.

The device we are developing features remotepower control, real-time monitoring, and automatic start-stop testingcapabilities. It enables operators to diagnose equipment issues remotely andcontrol switches under authorized conditions. Importantly, it is independent ofthe testing equipment and can be directly connected to the power supply ofABB's commercial products, bringing significant efficiency and conveniencewithout the need for additional infrastructure.

The outcomes of this project will include arobust solution that enhances energy efficiency and testing reliability,contributing to more sustainable and efficient industrial operations. By leveragingthe expertise and interests of team members, the project aims to deliver ahigh-quality product that aligns with ABB’s technological and environmentalobjectives, supporting ABB’s commitment to sustainable industrial operations.
